Fungi foray at Westgate Park

July 21 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

Free
Geastrum Pectinatum – Beaked Earthstar
Leratiomyces ceres – Redlead Roundhead

With the rainfall we’ve had over winter to date, we have observed lots of fungal activity!

Join us on a fungi foray through Westgate Park where we will begin with a brief talk about the role of fungi in ecology and some tips on identifying the sporing bodies (the mushrooms) before taking a walk through the Park. We will make a record of what we see and send that to iNaturalist.

We will meet at the BBQ shelter – a short walk into the Park from the main carpark. Rug up and wear sturdy shoes. Bring a camera if you have one. A magnifying device and hand mirror is useful too.

Children are very welcome – they are excellent spotters!

It’s free but you will need to book here – numbers are limited to 20.
